About Us

History & Background

Established in 1980, the Mustard Seed has been under the continuous direction of Patricia Stevens. With the belief that staff stability is critical to the children's sense of well-being and growth, the Mustard Seed strives to provide and maintain a stable, nurturing group of caregivers.

The Child Care Center was created by and continues operation as a mission of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Religious activities may include: grace before meals and snacks, Bible-based songs and stories and simple worship experiences to love God, to give thanks and to know God loves and cares for us.

Our Mission

At the Mustard Seed, we recognize the importance of meeting all of your child's needs in a caring, secure and culturally-stimulating atmosphere.

Our Program Goals are as follows:

  • To give each child an awareness of himself/herself as a unique individual with special qualities and abilities.
  • To give each child an opportunity to participate in the kinds of learning experiences necessary for his/her complete development.
  • To guide every child in his/her natural desire to learn and then to assist each one toward reaching his/her full potential.
  • To encourage each child to question.
  • To give each child an awareness of other cultures/ethnic groups in the community.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Distinctly an extension of the Christian ministry of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Mustard Seed is a non-profit child care center, providing care without regard to race, color creed, sex or national origin. The Mustard Seed respects and facilitates the rights of each child in its care to observe the tenants of the child's own faith. Religious activities may include: grace before meals and snacks, Bible-based songs and stories and simple worship experiences to love God, to give thanks and to know God loves and cares for us

Our Staff

We have a dedicated staff that will take care of your children.

Miss Pat

My name is Patricia Stevens, better known as Miss Pat to parents and children alike.
Your children are your most prized possessions and we feel honored to have the opportunity to care for them. I have been in the Early Childcare field for more than thirty years. I have received my early childhood degree from BCC. Through the years I have taken many administrative classes and continually take classes to learn new ways to improve our program to better serve you and your child. One of my goals is to have a consistent staff. Most of our staff has been here for many years.
